Although the University of Hawai'i is a state-assisted institution, we depend on the generosity of our community to help support our students, faculty, staff and programs through private donations. The community colleges of the University of Hawai'i system continue to work closely with the University of Hawai'i Foundation to raise private funds to help support scholarships, endowed chairs, equipment purchases, program support, faculty development, facility improvements, and other critical activities.

In these challenging economic times, private giving at the University of Hawai'i Community Colleges increased by more than 18 percent over last year's total, undoubtly reflecting donor's confidence in its mission and future.

Significant gifts include:
  • $1.6 million from the estate of the late Isamu Shinshiro to create the Isamu Shinshiro Scholarship for Sustainability Technology Education and Training Fund
  • $100,000 for the Kapi'olani Community College Innovations in Professional Development Fund
  • $36,000 from Delta Construction to establish a Leeward CC endowment
  • $35,900 and KSK Foundation of Kapolei to establish a Leeward CC endowment
Private funds are often placed into endowments that provide support for a given scholarship or program in perpetuity. A listing of the community college endowments may be found here.
