Who may participate in this pilot program?
Up to 60 seniors from the 10 participating Oʻahu high schools (Campbell, Farrington, Kaimukī, Kapolei, McKinley, Nanakuli, Pearl City, Roosevelt, Waiʻanae, and Waipahu) may enroll as full-time students at Honolulu, Kapiʻolani, and Leeward Community Colleges. (Sophomores and juniors may prepare to participate in the program in their senior year by completing any necessary prerequisite English and math requirements.) Honolulu CC requires placement into English 22/60 and Math 24/50/53 before starting any Jump Start program.

Honolulu CC

Recommended HonCC Programs Approximate Costs for 2-year Program
Tools, Supplies & Books
Administration of Justice (AJ) $400
Auto Body Repair and Painting (ABRP) * The cost for tools, supplies and textbooks is approximately $1500-2000. Purchases of additional tools, textbooks, and mock up materials may be required each semester.
Carpentry Technology (CARP) The cost for tools and textbooks is approximately $460 for the first year and $50 for each succeeding year.
Communication Arts (CA) The estimated cost of the two-year program for required texts and supplies is approximately $2000.
Computing, Electronics, & Networking Technology (CENT) The cost of equipment and textbooks is between $1000-$2000 for the entire program. It is recommended that students have their own computers and access to the Internet.
Early Childhood Education (ED) $500
Fashion Technology (FT) The cost for textbooks is approximately $200-$500 per semester. The costs of supplies vary depending on projects ($150-$300 per semester).
Fire and Environmental Emergency Response (FIRE) The cost of Textbooks is approximately $100 - $250 per semester. Fees for clothing rental and equipment purchase for 280A, 280B, and 280C could exceed $1000.
Music & Entertainment Learning Experience (MELE) The cost for textbooks is approximately $240.
Sheet Metal and Plastics (SMP) The cost of tools, instruments, and textbooks is approximately $580.
Welding Technology (WELD) The cost for tools, books, and supplies is approximately $450.00. Purchases of additional tools and textbooks may be required each semester.

* This program also requires Respirator use clearance.
